General Experience Larry started his career with BHCD Engineers in Denver, Colorado. At that time, Denver was undergoing a major economic expansion which provided a unique opportunity to quickly progress in design responsibilities. Larry served as Project Engineer and then as Project and Group Manager for office building design. He designed the HVAC systems for 7 major high rise projects in addition to multiple low rise corporate and speculative office buildings. This work allowed him to collaborate with some of the premier architectural firms in the nation. The designs involved both core and shell construction in addition to tenant fit outs. His design responsibilities also evolved over time to include medical office facilities, hospitals, industrial and educational projects
In 1984, in conjunction with a partner, Larry founded and served as President of ABS Consultants, an M/E/P design firm which subsequently grew to 40 employees by the mid 1990’s. Larry expanded a regional base of clients to a national level with firms such as Disney Development Co and Chevron Development. As Principal in Charge, Larry had a broad oversight of each project, ranging from contract negotiation and system concepts to establishment of GMP, construction administration and commissioning.
ABS work included market sectors involving assisted living facilities, mixed use developments, National Park Service, corporate office and resort projects. Larry's projects included St. Elizabeth's, a 13 story assisted living facility; Palmer Center, a mixed use development with a new high rise office building and convention center and a complete refurbishment of the historic Antlers Hotel; multiple contracts with the National Park Service for assessment surveys and cultural facility construction; and Wilderness Lodge, a 500 room resort hotel for Disney Development in Orlando, FL.
After achieving a personal goal of an extended sabbatical, Larry returned to his roots in Ohio. In his 15 years with MDA, he served as a liaison and lead project manager to architectural, corporate, development and institutional clients. Along with a broad base of local Northwest Ohio projects, Larry led MDA's MEP teams in designs in 15 states and Canada. This wide exposure has allowed him to achieve a depth of experience in dealing with diverse utility and building departments, regional contractors and multiple local and national building codes.
Larry's project experience at MDA expanded into the retail, educational, governmental and industrial sectors. He developed a relationship with the largest retail developer in the country which led to the design and construction of 14 premium outlet malls throughout the United States and Canada. He has worked with multiple school districts and as a LEED AP has been responsible for the design of 4 LEED certified school projects. He has also led the MEP/FP design efforts for governmental facilities at the local, state and federal level.
Larry has recently moved to the Bend Oregon area and resides in Powell Butte. He looks forward to his new opportunity leading CEA Consulting Engineers in the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for Central Oregon's growing construction industry.
